Catalyst For Men

This could just as well have been named "Nosebleed For Men".  Halston weren't screwing around when they made this.  This fragrance is so dry and spicy, it almost feels like you're inhaling fiberglass insulation through your nose when you sniff it up close.

Even if I didn't like Catalyst For Men (which used to be the case), I'd have to give it points for being so uncompromising.  I find it a pretty linear and static scent - it basically consists of in-your-face levels of clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and sandalwood, with dry, sandpaper-like consistency.  The juice itself is colored a rusty orange, and that is exactly the color it brings to mind when I smell it.  Catalyst is definitely from the JHL/Derrick school of spicy men's fragrances.

While the intensity of the spices does calm down a little bit over time, there is zero sweetness or anything else to make this more user-friendly.  On the other hand, even though it's a fairly strong fragrance, Catalyst For Men is not loud.  Its scent lasts a long time, but it projects moderately.

I think this is an excellent fragrance, but I would only recommend it to people to who don't mind heavy amounts of spices in their fragrances.

MY RATING:  8/10
